Use Coconut Oil To Remove Makeup
HERE IS HOW
Removing makeup is probably one of the most important tasks if you want to keep your face clean of pimples, blackheads, etc.
Unfortunately, many people tend to clean their makeup with regular cleansers and other products which can do more harm than good. Most of these products just don’t clean up all of the makeup particles that if stay in your pores can cause clogs which can cause whiteheads on your skin.
On the other hand, coconut oil has a naturally creamy texture, comes from a vegetable source, and is almost always free from pesticides and other chemicals and contaminants, it has been used for years in soaps, shampoos, creams, and other body-care products.
All of these characteristics make coconut oil a perfect makeup removal tool.
Can Coconut Oil Be Used As a Makeup Remover?
Yes, coconut oil is great for removing makeup and is recommended to remove makeup with it.
Many dermatologists recommend it because unlike most other products it dissolves the particles of the makeup and gets them out of your pores. This way your pores are clogged which results in pimples on your face.
Even though coconut oil is great at removing makeup you don’t want to let the oil sit on your skin for too long. It should be removed from your face in under 5 minutes as it can cause acne itself if your skin absorbs it in certain situations depending on your skin type.
Make sure to remove the oil from your skin after you are done with the makeup removing.
How To Remove Makeup With Coconut Oil
Before you start removing your makeup with coconut oil you have to remove any „extras“ such as false eyelashes, liquid lipstick, etc. Of course, you should do that the proper way without damaging your natural beauty. This means taking false eyelashes off carefully without tearing off your natural ones.
As for the liquid lipstick, we would recommend extremely effective yet very cheap small wipes from Amazon. We have tested them and they work like a charm when it comes to lipstick removal.
To remove makeup this way, all you will need is coconut oil and wet wipes (we recommended to use baby wipes). After you have prepared all you need, you should get some coconut oil out of the jar. Of course, you can do it with your hand or with a spoon.
After you have taken some coconut oil out you should wipe it between your hands and get it all over them.
After you wiped coconut oil all over your hands it’s time to get it to the face, wipe it all over your face with the nice small circle movement of your hands. This way the coconut oil is going to have effects faster.
If you are wondering how much coconut oil should I apply, we found that 2 small spoons of coconut oil do the trick. Of course, you should apply them one by one after you have applied the first one all over your face using a second spoon of coconut oil to cover the parts of the face the first spoon did not.
With two spoons of coconut oil, you can clean any makeup on your face, and you can apply coconut oil even on your eyebrows, and every other part of the face you have makeup on.
You need to keep massaging coconut oil with circular movements for 3 to 4 minutes, after you have done that use the baby wipes to clean up your face. Wipe all of the oil and makeup mixtures in as few swipes as possible and don’t be too rough as that can irritate your skin and cause acne to appear.
You will probably need two baby wipes to clean the whole face properly.
After this make sure to check if there are any makeup particles left on your skin. You can do this with one clean wipe and by swiping it across your face. Pay close attention to your hairline as most people forget that part and get pimples there. If there is any pigmentation on the wipe it means you did not fully remove your makeup and should re-do the process of removing.
Does Removing Makeup With Coconut Oil Cause Acne?
This has been a debate in a skincare community for ages, many people will tell you to stay away from coconut oil if you have acne-prone skin but we are here to question it.
Even though coconut oil is labeled as highly comedogenic on a comedogenic scale which means prone to cause acne. The study that proved that coconut oil is acne prone is 50 years old and was done on rabbit skin. American Academy of Dermatology confirmed that this scale is not accurate and doesn’t apply to every skin type.
But what exactly is the comedogenic scale? That scale came as a result when scientists started examining ingredients in skincare products about 50 years ago, to see and check whether they will cause acne, blackheads, etc. But here is the catch, all of the experiments that the results for this scale were drawn were done on rabbit ears, yes you did read that right.
As you can imagine that’s why we are sure that scientists were wrong on this one, rabbit ears just have too much difference compared to human skin.
Here are a few, first of all, rabbit skin is way more sensitive than ours, hence it’s much easier for any ingredient to cause a breakout there than on our skin, of course, this also includes coconut oil.
Furthermore, rabbit skin will always react much faster to anything applied to it than human skin will.
Also, sebum in our and rabbit skin is much different, sebum is an oil that is already in our skin.
Also when we are talking about makeup removal with coconut oil, if you follow our short guide on how to do it properly that process won’t last more than 5 minutes. This means you will wipe off all of the coconut oil in 5 minutes and your skin won’t be able to absorb it at all. As it was proven that the skin needs from 5 to 10 minutes to absorb the coconut oil.
